[SOLVED] Some NFS mounts not working

Posted: 09 Jul 2016 19:03

I have set up several NFS mounts. They were all working a day or two ago, but today two of them are throwing an access denied error when I try to mount them. I have checked the NFS section and everything is that same. No privileges have changed, its just strange.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Have you tried simply restarting the NFS service?

Check your /etc/exports file. I had several instances where that became corrupted.

I checked the /etc/exports file and its all ok. I deleted the share and reinstalled and, restarted the nfs server and everything worked. Then a week later another mount point refused to mount. I am completely baffled. I am mounting the shares on a Fedora 24 platform and add/delete files to the shares all the time, but when I check permissions on the files on the server, all looks fine with 777 on all of them. So what could possibly be the issue?

Thanks for any help.

Type out here your /etc/exports

I'm aware that this answer is late, but it might be of interest.

showmount -e <server-name or IP> will show the exports list from the servers kernel.

Are the clients using the same IP or does the ip change ( and falls outside the allowed range in /etc/exports ) ?

Ok, the /etc/exports file contains all the correct shares, but when I do the showmount two of the shares are missing. I just don't understand what is going on.

Here is the /etc/exports file from the server:

/mnt/Media/camera -mapall=root -network 192.168.10.0 -mask 255.255.255.0
/mnt/Media/Photos -mapall=root -network 192.168.10.0 -mask 255.255.255.0
/mnt/Media/Music -mapall=root -network 192.168.10.0 -mask 255.255.255.0
/mnt/Media/Movies -mapall=root -network 192.168.10.0 -mask 255.255.255.0
/mnt/Files/Test -mapall=root -network 192.168.10.0 -mask 255.255.255.0
/mnt/Files/Sheri -alldirs -mapall=root -network 192.168.10.0 -mask 255.255.255.0
/mnt/Files/NewJohn -mapall=root -network 192.168.10.0 -mask 255.255.255.0
/mnt/Files/John/USB1 -mapall=root -network 192.168.10.0 -mask 255.255.255.0
/mnt/Files/CalLib -mapall=root -network 192.168.10.0 -mask 255.255.255.0
/mnt/Files/Business -mapall=root -network 192.168.10.0 -mask 255.255.255.0

The showmount command results from the Client"

Export list for 192.168.10.250:
/mnt/Files/Test 192.168.10.0
/mnt/Files/Business 192.168.10.0
/mnt/Files/Sheri 192.168.10.0
/mnt/Media/camera 192.168.10.0
/mnt/Media/Movies 192.168.10.0
/mnt/Media/Music 192.168.10.0
/mnt/Media/Photos 192.168.10.0

Test is an empty folder, I thought there might be some files with bad permissions or other problems. But it will not mount either. Notice the two files that didn't successfully export. NewJohn, USB1 and CalLib.

No ideas why these two files are not exporting? Very confusing to me. They refuse to export now even when I do delete them and rebuild. This is very strange behavior than probably needs to be resolved by someone.

I'm experiencing the same problems. I'm on 11.1.0.4 - Atomics (revision 5019)

Code: Select all

cat /etc/exports
/pool/dataset/www -maproot=root -network 192.168.2.0 -mask 255.255.255.0
/pool/dataset/mysql -maproot=root -network 192.168.2.0 -mask 255.255.255.0
/pool/dataset/mail -maproot=root -network 192.168.2.0 -mask 255.255.255.0
/pool/dataset/backups -maproot=root -network 192.168.2.0 -mask 255.255.255.0

Code: Select all

showmount -e nas4free
Export list for nas4free:
/pool/dataset/mail 192.168.0.0
/pool/dataset/www 192.168.2.0
I tweaked the shares at Services > NFS > Shares and now only one share is exported. But the mounted share stays available???

Code: Select all

showmount -e nas4free
Export list for nas4free:
/pool/dataset/www 192.168.2.0
Usually, when I tweak the shares and make the netmask /23 instead of /24, the share not always appears in showmount but it usually can be mounted on the client.

I'll be buggered if I understand what's going on here.

I am having the same issue.

It has worked an hour ago and a reboot later suddenly there is no export anymore.

Here's a screenshot of my /etc/exports:
nas4free.JPG
Obviously the clients then see no exports and throw the access denied message. I notice from the web interface logs:

Code: Select all

Jan 12 21:21:01	nas4free	mountd[3053]: mount request denied from 192.168.2.100 for /usr/storage/nas/ISOs
As you can see mountd considers something wrong with my exports and I just don't know what that could be.

Also why it thinks the mount request is for /usr... is beyond me.

I have also tried renaming the exports file and then deleting all shares from the web gui. I recreated one as a test but so far nothing.

So reinstalling and importing the configuration didn't help.

Next step will be reinstalling and NOT import the config but start from scratch.

Solved it.

Note for future reference: Do NOT change the hostname after you configured NFS!
After reinstalling I first configured NFS. It worked. I changed the system name: Same error again. Reinstalled again, changed system name and THEN configured NFS: It's still working.
